Moving into a new home can be exciting and overwhelming at times.

Stay on track and make your move-in process fast and easy with our guide below.

Pay Your Deposit
Contact Utility Providers e.g. water, sewer, gas, electric, cable, etc.
Obtain Renters Insurance ($100,000 for apartments and $300,000 for all other housing).
Review and sign your lease, addenda and HOA rules and regulations (if applicable).
Update your Address with the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Pro Tip: If your mailbox is owned by the Post Office, you will need to arrange for a key to be provided. Ask your leasing agent about mailbox ownership.
Pay any remaining move-in funds.
Protect your deposit by completing and return your move-in checklist within 7 business days.

Q: How long do I have to pay my deposit once approved?

A: 2 Business Days.

Q: When is the latest I can move-in?

A: Your lease will begin no later than 14 days from your approval. You do not need to take physical possession by then, but you will need to start paying rent.

Q: When is the soonest I can move-in?

A: The earliest you can move-in in usually within 3 business days of your approval. However, contact your leasing agent to confirm. The primary cause of the delay is because the leasing team needs time to complete the move-in documentation prior to your occupancy.

Q: Why Does Sleep Sound require certified funds?

A: Sleep Sound is an agent for the owner. In order to ensure that a check will not be reversed for insufficient funds, we required move-in funds (rent and deposit) to be certified e.g. cashiers check or money order.

Moving forward, funds may be paid via personal check or online.

Q: How Does the Move-in Checklist protect my deposit?

A: Sleep Sound reviews your move-in checklist after you move-out. While we do our best to document everything, it is possible that something was missed. By providing documentation that something was “pre-existing” your property manager can confidently tell the owner you are not responsible for the supposed damage and refund more or all of your deposit.

Q: Why can’t Sleep Sound order my mailbox key for me?

A: If the mailbox is privately owned, Sleep Sound can assist with you with this. If your mailbox is federal property, you must go through the United States Postal Service.
