The City Council and Portland Housing Bureau and the direction of Chloe Eudaly and at the advice of the Relocation Task Force have suggested the following changes to Portland's relocation ordinance.
- Tenants have 45 days to ask for funds from landlord.
- Landlord must pay relocation fee within 31 days
- Tenant has 6 months to determine if they do plan to vacate. If they do not vacate, then they must pay back the relocation money to the landlord.
One major problem with these changes is that there is no clear penalty for tenants who do not move and do not pay back the money.
